Trigger Point Injections in St. Louis

Chronic Pain St. Louis MO Trigger Point Injections

Trigger Point Injections in St. Louis are one of the many innovative pain relief tools we offer at St Louis Back and Knee Center. They can be offered as a stand-alone treatment to provide immediate pain relief to a specific area of tension and pain, or as part of one of our comprehensive systems to provide relief to a broader condition.

Understanding Trigger Point Injections in St. Louis

Trigger points are painful knots in your muscles. They form when a muscle is tense or in spasm and can’t relax. Often these knots are so pronounced they can actually be felt through the skin. Trigger Points can irritate the nerves around them and cause local pain, or pain that is felt in another part of the body. Trigger points can be an underlying cause for back or neck pain, Fibromyalgia, or even tension headaches.

Trigger Points can also be a source for Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS). MPS is a chronic condition that affects the fascia or connective tissue that covers the muscles. In some cases, the area where the person experiences the pain may not be the actual place where the pain generator is located. This is called referred pain. At SuperiorMED our medical team is skilled at working to identify referred pain and tracking it to the source to provide true long-term pain relief.

How They Work

Trigger Point Injections are quick and cause little or no pain. The injections are provided here at St Louis Back and Knee Center and take only a few minutes. A small needle is inserted into the patient’s muscle or area of pain. The injection contains a local anesthetic or saline and may include a corticosteroid. The injection works to inactivate the trigger point and relieve the pain. Several sites can be injected in one visit.
